Freemasons assist in funding WWI memorial


Above is pictured a memorial to the men of the Monmouthshire Regiment who lost 85 men in one day who were inhabitants of Newport in 1915. 85 trees were planted in their memory opposite Blaina Wharf a few of which are pictured below. W.Bro. Charles Ferris worked very hard collecting for this memorial and encouraged many Masons to be contributors from funds given to 250.000 poppy seeds.
