A christmas message from the Provincial grand master

Dear Brethren,

Yet another year has passed by and the Province of Monmouthshire continues to enjoy enthusiasm within the Lodges and Chapters. The warmth of your welcome afforded to myself, my Deputy and Assistant PGM’s together with my executive and Provincial team is very much appreciated when attending at installations and at your regular meetings.

After the success of the 2013 festival for the RMTGB, no time has been wasted in launching a ‘mini festival’ for our home charities. Many fund raising schemes have been initiated by my Assistant Provincial Grand Master W Bro. Christopher Evans and my committee in support.

But, as we all know, ideas alone will not lead to success without the support from the Brethren of the Province which has been truly outstanding, with over £7000 raised by the Provincial grand raffle last month. I am grateful to the Lodges and their support with quite considerable prizes as well as the sale of tickets. The Provincial Christmas cards have been very  popular and another competition will be held next Spring to select suitable pictures for next years Christmas cards, I congratulate those who’s pictures were selected for this years cards and would like to encourage those who submitted pictures for consideration to try again next year. I am pleased to announce that several social events will again be held by Lodges around the Province raising many thousands of pounds.

For those who contribute regularly, the new ’97 lapel pin is now being distributed as recognition of your continued support, and I thank you for your commitment to charity. When we were initiated we all pledged ourselves that we would help others when circumstances would allow, but, there are many things to consider at this moment in time. Many of our Masonic buildings urgently need attention and attendance is not as high as we would wish at some of the social events. I fully understand that individuals circumstances change and I would emphasise therefore that gift aids are more important than they have ever been so we can, and are able to honour our obligations to masonic charities.

In November I was again privileged to host the annual presentation to our local charities and this year twenty six good causes were supported and the princely sum of £30,000 was donated to these very worthwhile organisations. This emphasises the need for our continued fund raising as without our support those worthwhile causes would be much worse off financially.

Let us remember that Christmas is a happy time and for many it is a time for reflection and a time  not to forget “ the reason for the season” but also to dedicate that most important asset which we all have a little of, for the good of those who surround us. Time is always a very valuable commodity, and something that should not be wasted. Please spend time with your families but also consider sparing a little time to make that phone you have been meaning to make, to that friend whom you may not have heard from for a while, or the widow of your old friend who has passed to the Grand Lodge above.

Please consider those who may not have the luxury of a loving family to support them, and appreciate your good fortune if you are surrounded at this special time by those whom you love and those who love you.

I sincerely hope that you and your families enjoy a happy and blessed Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2015.

 God bless you all.

RWBro. the Rev. Malcolm C. G. Lane

Casnewydd Lodge enjoy a Christmas gathering

I happened to stumble across the Casnewydd Lodge enjoying a good sing song at their Christmas gathering. The Lodge opened and closed and the Brethren then joined their ladies and partners for a very enjoyable evening. It is good to see that we can all enjoy each others company at this special time of year.
